Obituary of Gloria Jean Sadie Carey Cox

Gloria Jean Sadie (Carey) Cox passed away suddenly on November 21st, 2022. Jean was born on June 17th, 1943, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania to Chester and Dorothy (McCauslin) Carey. She moved to Virginia from Pennsylvania 18 years ago and was retired certified nursing assistant. She loved all animals but especially cats and never had less than 5 or 6 at any given time. She regularly gave money to animal causes as well as others. She was married in May of 2008 to David Cox of Rural Retreat, VA. She is survived by four children and their spouses: David and Michele (Montague) Reed of Wellsville, PA, John Reed of Dillsburg, PA, Kimberly (Reed) and Bob Baranowsky of Meadowview, VA, and Douglas and Jennifer (Baylis) Reed of Manchester, PA, as well as two stepchildren and their spouses: Deborah (Cox) and Stephen Terry and Keith and Vicky Cox. She adored all of her grandchildren: Carson Edmondson and wife DeAnna (Will), Timothy Edmondson, Lillian Baranowsky, Katelynn Reed and partner Corey Reever, Devin Reed, and Ashleigh Reed, as well as her great-grandchildren, Abbigail Reever, Myra and Freya Edmondson. She had a lot of siblings but is survived by only three: Glenn Carey of Gardners, PA, Larry Carey and wife Marie of Carlisle, PA, and Caroline (Carey) Hollinger of Dillsburg, PA. Funeral service will be held 2 P.M. Monday, November 28, 2022, at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Mt. Mitchell Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until service time.
