Obituary of James Trivitt

James Trivitt, age 85, of Max Meadows, Va., passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on July 15, 1937, in Gary, WV, son of the late Elmer F. and Lura Pugh Trivitt. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture. He was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Jones Trivitt. He is survived by two daughters, Kathy T. Vaught, of Rural Retreat, Va., and Greta T. Grubb, of Wytheville, Va.; Three grandchildren, Michelle V. McFarlane (Chad), of Rural Retreat, Va., Kenneth Tyler “Blaine” Grubb (Angel), of Rural Retreat, Va., and Kenna Taylor Grubb (Logan) of Saltville, Va.; Four Great-Grandchildren, Taylor Belle McFarlane, Ryleigh June McFarlane, Gage Steven McFarlane, and Presley Kate Grubb; One sister, Carrie Miller, of Rural Retreat, Va.; One brother, Jack Trivitt (Evelyn), of Rural Retreat, Va.; One brother-in-law, Gary Jones (Bonita), of Camp, Va., and One sister- in-law, Audrey Jones, of Wytheville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews also survive. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Grubb Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will take place at Speedwell United Methodist Church Cemetery with Derek Cowan officiating. There will also be military rites rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
