Gregory Altizer

Obituary of Gregory Altizer

Gregory Altizer, age 54, slipped away from this earth in the early morning hours on Monday, January 16, 2023 at his home showered with an abundance of love, tenderness, and compassion by his family. Greg was born in Wythe County, VA on October 21, 1968 to Gary Altizer, Sr. and the late Joyce Altizer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Altizer. Greg was a graduate of George Wythe High School Class of 1986 and preceded to become a jack of all trades. Greg worked many different jobs, but his best skill was being able to fix about anything. There was rarely a time that you could come across something he couldn’t repair. The last few years he put those skills to work at Pikes Garage in Marion, VA becoming an excellent mechanic and well-known member of the community. Greg loved hunting, fishing, and tinkering on any small motor he could get his hands on. His passion was vintage cars with his favorite model being an El Camino. He was well known as being a down to earth, humble guy that would help anyone that needed it. His grand humor and laid-back country boy drawl will forever be missed by all that knew him. Greg had reunited with his high school sweetheart, Tanya and they have spent the last seven and a half years enjoying life and love together. They were married on October 23, 2020 to complete their fairytale love story. Too brief of a time to make up for the thirty years they had spent apart. Greg really was one of the good guys, with a good heart and will be deeply and forever loved and missed. Left to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Tanya Altizer of Marion; mother-in-law, Jeanne Eversole of Max Meadows; stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Lora and Keith Arnold of Rural Retreat; Emily and Dakota Ray of Damascus; step son, Jonathon Clemons of Wytheville; special granddaughter and best buddy, Kaitlyn Arnold of Rural Retreat; two children,, Alyssa and Ayden Sykes of Austinville; father, Gary Altizer and Betty Lefler of Jonesborough, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Gary, Jr. and Leigh Altizer of Rural Retreat; one grandson of Austinville; one granddaughter and four grandsons in Alabama.
