Obituary of Dianna Riggle Ryan

Dianna Riggle Ryan, 77, passed away peacefully at home on May 4, 2023 in Wytheville, VA. Dianna was born on December 20, 1945 to Sallie Irvin Riggle and Ernest ‘Hen’ Riggle. After leaving George Wythe High School, she continued her education at Wytheville Community College while raising 3 children with her husband. She earned state licenses in Insurance, Real Estate sales and Appraisal. Her love of appraising led her to begin Ryan Appraisal & Insurance Service in 1983. Becoming the first female appraiser in the area, she blazed the trail for future women in the Appraisal Industry. Her youngest daughter, Carol, joined her and together they built the business that would stand for 40 years. Throughout the years, Dianna enjoyed life. She gave of herself to all those that loved and cared for her. Active at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, her years there were full of service on the Alter Guild, singing in the choir, teaching classes, and playing the handbells. Dianna was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Sallie Irvin Riggle, as well as her in- laws, Clyde ‘Bud’ and Elizabeth Ryan, sister Jean Munsey (Ike) and brother-in-law Steve Ryan. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clyde R Ryan III; Children, Stephanie R James (George F James, Jr), David R Ryan (Chastity T. Ryan), Carol R Fowler (Randall Fowler); Grandchildren, Adam James (Tiffany), Charles James (Amanda), Taylor James, Sally James, Will James, Madeline Fowler, Noah Fowler, Savannah Ryan Fowler, Cayden King, David Garrison Ryan; Sister, Brooksie Peeples; Sister-in-laws, Elizabeth ‘Betsy’ Neal (Mike), Madeline Collins (Bill); 6 Great Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 7 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00pm-3:00pm. A private burial will be held at a later date. Gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in Dianna’s memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jane Festa.
