Obituary of Robert Irven "Buddie" Waddle

Robert I. “Buddie” Waddle, 84, of Bland, VA went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 7, 1933, the son of the late Robert Everette and Georgia Alma Newberry Waddle. Buddie was a lifelong resident of Bland, VA and a graduate of Ceres High School and Wytheville Community College. He was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and sang in the choir for many years. Buddie was very involved in his community including the American Legion Post 20 for 30 years; the Ceres Ruritan Club for over 40 years; the Ceres Alumni Association where he also served as treasurer; the Masonic Lodge # 206 AF & AM and the Eastern Star Bland # 41 OES. Buddie retired from the Bland Correctional Center in 1996 as Captain of the midnight shift after 24 dedicated years. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served from 1956 – 1958. Buddie treasured spending time with his family and friends, traveling with family, going on vacations with his sons and grandchildren, and being part of a loving church family and community. He rarely missed a baseball game, basketball game, and soccer game or ballet recital for his grandchildren. He was a kind, compassionate, and loving husband, father, and grandfather. Buddie was a child of God and knew the Lord as a close personal friend. Although Buddie had many health challenges he never let his faith waiver. Buddie was proceeded in death by his sister, Hazel Lenore Waddle. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lorraine Waddle of Bland, VA; son Robbie and wife Robin of Abingdon, VA; son Brian and wife Kathryn of Bristol, VA; and five grandchildren Grayson, Reece, Ava, Abram and Georgia Waddle; sister-in-law Nancy Lam and husband Erwin of Harrisonburg, VA; brother-in-law, Ralph Stroop Jr. and wife Virginia of Singers Glen VA; Sister-in-law Peggy Hott and husband Ted of Harrisonburg, VA. He is also survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends whom he considered family. The funeral service will be held at 7:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 11, 2017 with The Reverend Kevin Richardson and The Reverend Joe Mack Taylor officiating and music provided by Diane Lindamood. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00pm prior to the service. The committal service will be held at Waddle and Stowers Cemetery on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 1:30pm. The family would like to thank his many friends for all their love and support during this time.
