Obituary of Ellen Felty Ale

Ellen Felty Ale, Flagstaff, AZ passed away, January 3, 2019, at the age of 76, in the Elaine Forrest House, Flagstaff, AZ after struggling against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The fifth daughter of Edna and Jesse Felty she is survived by three older sisters. Paige Cochran of Wytheville, VA, Jane Smith and Doris Miller of Greensboro, NC, and her husband of 52 years Richard.

After graduating from Wythe High School in 1960 and Watts School of Nursing 1963, Durham NC she joined Watts Hospital staff until marrying and moved to Hawaii where she continued to practice Intensive Care Nursing. In 1974 she received her BSN at St. Francis in Illinois and continued working in the Health Care field holding licenses in six states as her husband transferred with the federal government. As a Junior while at Watts School of Nursing she was inducted into the Santa Filomena Society acknowledging those students who demonstrate leadership qualities and make contributions towards the betterment of the School of Nursing, as well as demonstrating superior nursing abilities and achievement.

She was an avid knitter and world traveler, loved to crochet and work with counted thread. Her passion for needlework culminated in her opening her own needlework store in Schaumburg, Illinois during the late 70’s to the mid 80’s. Thereafter she and her husband moved to Maryland and then to Emerald Isle North Carolina where she was medically disabled and retired from nursing. Upon her husband’s retirement and then in 2006 they ventured around the country emptying their bucket list and by happenstance settled in Flagstaff, AZ. in 2010. Unable to ignore her creativity she began hand crafting jewelry to allay her creative itch. This interest was a calming activity as she gently faded away to join her oldest sister Ruth.
