Obituary of Darrell Kyle Layne

Darrell Kyle Layne, age 71, of Wytheville, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kyle and Ethel Shelton Layne, and was a lifelong member of Mt Mitchell United Methodist Church. He was a lifelong farmer, milking cows until 1978, when he began raising registered Simmental cattle until 2006. Through his life he showed cattle, had horses, loved to calf rope, team pen, and trail ride. He enjoyed camping mostly in the mountains and also at horse shows. He loved to ride motorcycles, but most of all he loved his John Deere tractor. Darrell said he had a good life. He leaves behind a wife he has known for 49 years, Joyce Gardner Layne; a daughter, Dorinda Layne Elliott; a granddaughter, Grayce Elizabeth; a grandson, Hadley Garrett; Two sisters, Geraldine Stone and Arlene Haymaker; three nieces & spouses, Debbie Davenport & Gerald, Cella Porterfield & Larry, Teresa Grambrell & Robert; 8 great nieces & nephews; 12 great-great nieces & nephews. Funeral service will be held 11 AM Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Grubb Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by The Reverend Aubrey Whitlow with the interment to follow in the Mt. Mitchell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 6 to 8 PM. Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations may be made to Mt.
